Chhattisgarh: BJP worker killed allegedly by Maoists who accused him of being a police informer
A pamphlet issued by the Maoists’ Madded area committee claimed that Satyam Punem continued to help police despite receiving three warnings from them.
A Bharatiya Janata Party worker in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district was killed allegedly by Maoists who accused him of being a police informer, PTI reported on Tuesday.
Satyam Punem, a resident of Mujalkanker under the Ilmidi police station limits, was reportedly strangled to death on Monday night, an unidentified police official told the news agency.
A handwritten pamphlet found at the spot, issued by the Maoists’ Madded area committee, claimed that Punem had been acting as a police informer.
The pamphlet said that he continued to help the police despite receiving three warnings from the outfit, the police were quoted as saying.
Eleven workers from the BJP and three from the Congress have been killed in the state’s Bastar division between February 2023 and December 2024, The Times of India reported.
At least 40 persons have died in Maoist-related violence in the region this year.
